Imperfections of existing programs of practical training to acquire surgical skills in our country, together with continuing progress in the field of high-tech medical care and acute lack of personnel in all fields ofsurgery define the necessity of changes in system of surgical training itself. A possible scheme of improvement ofsurgical training inRussia should include creation of National committee on surgical training and development of high technology, and implementation of modern methods of selection for surgical specialties. Important measures include lengthening of post-diploma specialization training with different time periods depending on specialty and intensification of trainingwith inclusion of newtechniquesforimprovement of manual skills. A legal base is necessary for surgical training involving animals, aswell as creation of veterinary laboratory (with conditionsforraising animals, using them for medical purposes and utilization of corpses).Agood quality training for surgical staff requires s centralized anatomy theater allowing to thematic cycles dedicated to varioustypes ofsurgical interventions; creation of legal and financial conditionsfortraineesto take part in realsurgical practice. It is impossible to implement without increased role of mentorship, making teaching profession financially appealing, training of teaching staff, increasing prestige of teaching centers and involvement of trainees in scientific activities.
