Introduction. Recurrent lower urinary tract infections are common among women. On the one hand, the most important factor in their genesis is sexual activity, on the other hand – changes in the urogenital sphere against the background of postmenopause. This review is devoted to assessing the potential effectiveness of the components of the drug for local use Cistalis Intimate gel – lactic acid, D-mannose, hyaluronic acid – as part of the local prevention of recurrent cystitis, including postcoital.
Materials and methods. Publications from domestic and international databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), Russian State Library) were analyzed: original studies, reviews, including Cochrane, meta-analyses, current chapters of monographs over the past 15 years. The following keywords were used: postcoital cystitis, recurrent urinary tract infections, prevention, intimate gel, lactic acid, hyaluronic acid, D-mannose, isoflavones.
Results. The characteristics of postcoital cystitis were studied and the role of intimate hygiene products in the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections was considered from the standpoint of clinical medicine data. An assessment of the effectiveness of the use of these components of intimate products of the Cystalis line in various categories of patients was given. Cystalis intimate gel can be effective for complex therapy and prevention of recurrent cystitis, including postcoital, in sexually active women of reproductive age, when changing sexual partners, for the prevention of ascending infection in inflammatory diseases of the external genitalia.
Conclusions. Violation of the vaginal microflora is closely associated with behavioral, microbiological and hormonal factors. The use of complex local agents containing D-mannose, lactobacilli, hyaluronic acid and lactic acid for the prevention of bacterial vaginosis and urinary tract infections may be an effective and safe strategy for managing this group of patients.
