The scientic and pedagogical actvites of Yanenko Elana Konstantnovna began in 1958 at the department of Urology of the 2nd Moscow Medical Insttute n.a. N.I. Pirogov under the guidance of the professor N.A. Lopatkin, where she irstly worked as an assistant and since 1970 – as an assistant professor. In 1967 she defended her thesis for the candidate of medical sciences degree. In 1980 she defended her doctoral thesis on the fundamental problems of diagnosis and treatment of coral nephrolithiasis.

E.K. Yanenko has partcipated in the organizaton of the irst in the country Center for hemodialysis for patents with terminal renal failure. This work has saved the lives of many previously hopeless patents with terminal renal failure.

Afer creatng of the irst in the USSR Research Insttute of Urology in 1979 E.K. Yanenko contnued her work in the insttute, irstly - as head of the department of urolithiasis, then - as deputy director for scientic work, chief research oficer.

She has dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of urolithiasis and coral nephrolithiasis development and developed a number of theoretcal provisions concerning the peculiarites of the kidney compensatory mechanisms and restoraton of homeostasis in urolithiasis. E.K. Yanenko has proposed and introduced into practce new organ-preserving surgical interventons for coral stones of the kidneys, that allowed to treat very dificult patents. Under her guidance the methods of remote lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolitholapaxy, eferent methods and laser therapy were studied and included in the complex of treatment of urolithiasis.

Being for many years the main urologist of Moscow, E.K. Yanenko has carried out a great work on the organizaton of the urological service and introducton of scientic developments in the practcal health of the city. Elana Konstantnovna is the author of more than 500 scientic works, one of the authors of the textbook "Urology" (3-volume manual on urology and the Natonal guide to urology). Also, she has supervised 13 doctoral and 15 candidate dissertatons.

Professor Elana Konstantnovna Yanenko is a member of the Presidium and an honorary member of the Russian Society of Urology, a member of the European Society of Urology, a member of the editorial board of the journals "Experimental and Clinical Urology" and "Urology", a member of the specialized Scientic Council of the Scientic Research Insttute of Urology for defending dissertatons. She has been awarded the honorary ttles "Honored Doctor of the Russian Federaton" and "Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federaton", with diplomas and medals for "Labor Distncton", "In Memory of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow", "For services to the Natonal Health Service". In 1984 she was awarded the State Prize of the USSR for the textbook "Urology".
