Internet as unique information field for urologists

XXI century without exaggeration to be called the century of information. During the last three years there has been a technological breakthrough, manifested by advent of new equipment and improvement of communication channels.

Informational progress has led to the rapid growth of among internet users. As of May 2012 the number of people interested in urological health problems, was about 1.4 million people a month. They may be potential patients of urologists and could be actively consulted through the Internet technologies - with the help of telephone hotlines, instant messaging, postponed on-line consultations. In May 2012 we have the experience of more than 150 000 postponed consultations.

Urologists are the most active Internet users (67%) among physicians of other specialities. They use the Internet for exchange of information, communication, education, practical experience, on-line consultation of patients, participation in work of professional organizations.

Urological content is formed by creating of professional information resources, which publish news and information about events, meetings, interviews with leaders in urology, web-casts, on-line events broadcastings. Principally innovative approach is the creation of Urology television Uro.TV. A new trend in the Internet is socialization, an example of which is “Academy of Ambulatory Urology” project.

Internet communications create unprecedented opportunities for open and comprehensive communication of specialists, separated by huge distances, so we see great possibilities of the Internet in urology.
